First day with SJA!

So on Bank Holiday Monday, I had a slightly different day off work even with such brilliant weather it was, I had my first day volunteering with St John Ambulance (SJA).

For this, I travelled by train to Cambridge (note: I don’t drive, so this was the only way I could travel) and I must admit, it was rather strange being on an empty platform at Peterborough which normally would have been very busy even more so with it being a Bank Holiday and a very empty train (had a carriage to myself!)

When I got to Cambridge, I was picked up by my manager, Simon in one of the SJA Ambulances which was rather fun (we were not allowed to use the lights though, so don’t worry, we never!) seeing all the switches inside was rather exciting even though, none could be pressed.

When I got to the office, I was then putting first aid kits together and also checking stock to ensure it was all still within date.

It was a very enjoyable day and nice to meet some of the logistics team in Cambridge.

Now, I have been very keen since moving down to Peterborough to be a first aider with them and actually regret not joining them before now!

Yesterday (Tuesday 26th May) I put my application to be part of the Event First Aid team, I will update you on the progress of this and hopefully the progress of this, but even if I am not successful, being part of the logistics team is still a vital role as when we are back to running ‘normally’ there will be much more involved and not just putting first aid kits together and checking stock.

Anyway, for now, that’s all I have to update you on so far and make sure you keep your eye out on future updates.
